Avocado Imports from Non-European Origins, 2000-2008

EU-15 imports have fresh avocadoes have experienced a very important rise over the last years, from levels around 100,000 tons in the early 2000s to 180,000 t. last year.

South Africa is the traditional EU supplier, however avocado shipments from Peru have grown significantly. In 2008, both the African and South American suppliers had a market share of 29%. Regarding Israel, another major player in the avocado industry, its shipments have shrunk by nearly 20% during the last five years.
